Creative Sparkworks Film2Learn2£arn Diary #2

Course Diary #2

With blessings and hopes

Admin, Lambeth, London, United Kingdom

January, 2020

Thanks for checking out our End of Year progress report and Creative Sparkworks wish you a magical new year!

This year, 2020, we are already extremely productive, with 3 student films produced and 2 more in production before the end of January; 2 students attended free Film Composing Masterclasses with Film London, and 2 inspirational speakers from the industry have motivated the group.

Even more remarkably, 4 of this cohort have been in 3 different paid jobs as location marshalls and runners only half way through the course!

Happy New Year!

Our diligent students from our 6th Film2Learn2£arn programme indeed had a productive winter, and our small and mighty charity is moving forward with exciting news and opportunities. Scroll down to find out more!

A script is the foundation of a film production.

It tells the story, provides guidance to the crew, and is the first step of a creative filmmaking process.

Our Film2Learn2£arn students moved forward on their filmmaking journey this early winter by learning the essentials of screenwriting.

Coming to realise the importance of screenwriting, and getting familiar with the group workflow, our students were eager and curious to learn how to write scripts professionally, with our tutor, writer and producer, David Anderson.

They planned writing of short film in pairs or threes, and learned storyboarding and shotlists, preparing nervously as four of the scripts would be chosen for our formal End of Year film projects.

This also marked the beginning of our Core Course.

The First Formal Project

Based on their very first scripts, our passionate students started working on their first formal film production at the end of 2019.

The production took place in Lambeth, a borough of youth power and creativity. And the production especially features The Workshop, and their stylish old fire station, with special thanks to U + I Plc.

The production will continue in the first week back after Christmas. And we will be posting behind the scenes and interesting stories soon. So watch this space!

Our Progress

We are looking forward to developing a new ‘Set Ready Training’ course in 2020, led by Sue from FilmFixer, with Fully Focused Produion and a Masterclass led by Guy Bishop and Matt Gallagher, the founder of TheCallSheet.

Four of our students were working with Blink Productions on a new McDonald’s advert in December.

We have also secured some of our team to work on live film productions for Monga and Sophie’s Scripts.

Just so you know, we are having a Gala Screening Event on 9th June at the BFI Stephen Street. It will be so nice to see you there! Formal announcement to follow, but please do get in touch to secure your place 🙂

About Film2Learn2£arn

Funded by the Walcot Foundation, the course provides free inclusive filmmaking skills and employment training, with paid work experience.

We started our first Film2Learn2£arn course in 2013, in response to requests from young people in our locality.

We aim to increase our young people’s general wellbeing, education, skills and employment through the arts.

Since when, we have delivered industry approved and funded film skills and employment training courses to over 100 young adults, 85% of whom have moved into paid entry level work in the industry, 5% entered higher education, 5% are in full-time other jobs or training.

We are here for Lambeth’s next generation.
